Blackbird Project
The Blackbird Project is prinicipally a collaboration between ringers in the UK (Peter Fearon) and Portugal (Paulo Tenreiro, Miguel Araújo and Luis Pascoal) with an input from ringers in France, Spain, Morocco, Croatia, Poland and Sweden. The aim of the project is to understand the phenotypic characteristics of different populations of european passerines and how these populations move during the course of the year.
Objectives: To compare the biometric differences and body condition of different populations of European Passerines.
Target species: Blackbird (Turdus merula)
Additional species: Robin (Erithacus rubecula), Blue tit (Parus caeruleus) and Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs).

- Flattened Wing,
- Beak - measured skull to tip, (accurate to 0.1mm)
- Tarsus
- Tail
- 8th Primary (measured between the 9th and the 8th primary).
- Age

- Fat (0-8 scale)
- Muscle (0-3)
